A born performer, Mirah’s career is shaped by her lifetime love of cultural dance and music; her education in history and cultural studies; and her work in the humanitarian and human rights field. As a performer and educator, Mirah shares her passion for dances as well as their musical, historical and cultural contexts, and her deep connection with and respect for the cultures and peoples of origin.
Mirah has been artistic director with Al-Bahira Dance Theater since 2006 and sits on the board of the Egyptian American Society of Minnesota.
A performer, choreographer, lecturer, writer and dance instructor, Mirah Ammal provides online coaching and classes in addition to in-person when possible.
Mirah Ammal particularly specializes in Egyptian-style dance, performing raqs sharqi, raqs shaabi and raqs balady. However, she also performs Lebanese and other regional styles, and tailors performances to suit specific Middle Eastern, North African, East African and Central or South Asian clients.
Mirah also specializes in several folk and folkloric forms representing cultures throughout the region. She uses this knowledge in her personal work and as artistic director with Al-Bahira Dance Theater.
Mirah is a featured performer at Ansari's Mediterranian Grill and other restaurants and venues in the region.

In her teaching, Mirah emphasizes a physically and mentally healthy approach to belly dance. With a focus on body awareness, proper alignment, and healthy technique, she also encourages positive body image and self-confidence, helping students explore a full spectrum of expression, femininity, strength, power, grace, and physical balance through the dance. Her humor and down-to-earth nature make her popular with students of all ages, shapes, sizes and expressions.
Mirah Ammal encourages students, fellow artists, and audience members of all racial/ethnic backgrounds, nations of origin, gender identities, LGBTQ+ identities, immigration status, socioeconomic backgrounds, and physical, cognitive and neurological experience. She is committed to ongoing work to understand the cultural geo-political contexts in which these arts exist, promote artists of origin, advocate for causes related to the the people/cultures of origin, and lift up Black, Indigenous and other communities of color in her local and artistic communities.
