Mirah Ammal has been dancing professionally for nearly 25 years, and continues to perform regularly as a soloist and as an artistic director. Mirah brings a wealth of experience cultivating her own artistic work and vision, as well as navigating the pragmatic side of the dance: working with clients, navigating performance scenarios ranging from community events to private weddings and events, restaurants (including set up and scheduling with owners), and more. She understands the challenges that come with navigating the professional dance world, and complexities and decisions dancers may face when trying to decide if or how to build their dance businesses. Her goal with this course is to help give other dancers a boost as they navigate their own unique dance journeys.
The course is delivered online using a combination of live sessions in Zoom (every other week) with time in between live sessions for work on personal assignments and priorities. Resources and activities will be housed in a private online platform.
After you register (or pay your balance if you choose the payment plan,) you will receive a syllabus, information about how to access the online platform, the link to the first live session, and information about your first assignment.
After the first two live sessions we will begin scheduling your individual coaching session (which can take place at different times throughout the course.)
Live sessions are scheduled every other week on Wednesdays, starting at 7:00 p.m. US Central Daylight Time (8 Eastern, 6 Mountain, 5 Pacific.)
You will see that the live sessions are scheduled in two hour blocks. Most live sessions will be about 90-minutes with 30-minutes of optional time for additional Q&A, discussion, peer consultation or networking and socialization. There may be a couple classes planned for the full 2-hour slot, but you will be warned in advance if that is the intent.
Live session dates are currently planned as follows:
This schedule may be subject to some small adjustment if conditions warrant.
Live session classes do include presentation by the instructor, but also group discussion, peer sharing, and some practicum (movement work, physical engagement, or dance elements.) We'll try to warn you in advance if a session will involve movement exercises that involve standing/using spaces, as we understand some people may join from different spaces or devices depending on the night's activities. The course does not, however, include teaching a choreography or specific technique and combinations.
A key component of the live sessions is the interaction with the instructor and with other participants in the cohort, and the chance to ask any questions or introduce topics in real time. Therefore, we very strongly suggest that you plan to attend the live sessions.
That said, we know that life gets in the way. Urgent matters come up, you may need to travel for work or vacation. Or maybe you lose internet connection during a session. Therefore, we do plan to record at least a portion of these sessions (excluding any parts that may be sensitive, require consent, or not make sense to record.) Those recordings will be made available to registered persons only, unedited and for a brief period, usually until the next class.
More information will be coming on this, and we will discuss it as a group, but we're looking to create an in-person opportunity for those located in or near the instructor's local area, as well as a way for everyone to share performances, regardless of their physical location.
Mirah is available for additional private coaching sessions. Course participants are eligible for a discount on private coaching sessions scheduled between May 14 and the performance opportunity.
We're doing the registration through PayPal, so you should be able to register. Materials should be available from your location, and when we send class reminders, we'll translate class times into all time zones for the people in class. Please note the course materials will be in English and live sessions will be conducted in English. If English is not your primary language and you wish to use an AI interpretation tool to help you during live sessions, please contact Mirah. Mirah is also willing to exchange emails in French, Spanish or Arabic if you're willing to be patient with her. ;)
